The Boston Association of Cabaret Artists creates a supportive community of cabaret performers, provides opportunities for live cabaret events, and cultivates enthusiastic audiences. Click here to become a member.
Cabaret vocalists, musicians, songwriters, music educators, and producers comprise BACA's membership, along with audience members who love the cabaret art form and come to listen. BACA members express themselves primarily through song and may blend vocals with additional art forms (e.g., storytelling, humor, dance) to create their own unique acts. The majority of our membership ranges from aspiring singers to professional vocalists who perform from Provincetown to Boston to Worcester to New York City and beyond.
Originally, the word "cabaret" described a live show staged in a nightclub where patrons drank and ate while watching the performance. Cabaret is still produced in this setting, but today, it has expanded into small theaters, cafes, churches: any space where the performer can easily connect with the audience. Cabaret encompasses a broad array of musical styles from jazz, blues, pop, Broadway, the American Songbook, folk, contemporary, and country to classical.
BACA sponsors an open mic series, an annual spring Cabaret Fest, and "spotlight" showcases.
We take pride in our outreach program to senior citizen centers, libraries and other public venues.
